Various options are available for those interested in buying a vacation home in Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia and what better way to enjoy some R&R than on the waterfront. Typical Cape Breton waterfront house prices include:

  • $500,000  buys a waterfront house comprised of three bedrooms and 2 bathrooms covering approximately 1,977 square feet.
  • $750,000 will get you a three bedroom, four bathroom waterfront house covering approximately 2,275 square feet.
  • $1,000,000 affords a four bedroom, 3.5 bathroom waterfront house covering approximately 2,612 square feet.
  • $1.5 million buys a luxurious waterfront house comprised of four bedrooms and four bathrooms covering a spacious 3,760 square feet.

Age, location and amenities will vary, but you can expect newer houses with higher end finishings to be available at the higher price points and properties that require minor renovations at the lower price points.

Cape Breton house prices saw strong growth from 2017 to 2018 in the non-waterfront category, increasing from $99,562 in 2017 to $139,383 in 2018 or 40% (source: Re/max 2018 Recreational Property Report).

Cape Breton house prices had somewhat mixed results from 2018 to 2019. For instance, the median price of waterfront properties decreased from $229,310 in 2018 to $214,410 in 2019 or -7%. Alternatively, the median price in the non-waterfront category was relatively flat from 2018 ($139,383) to 2019 ($138,308) or -1%(source: Re/max 2019 Recreational Property Report).
